[PT] A Anta da Arcainha, ou mais correctamente, o Dólmen da Arcainha, encontra-se em Seixo da Beira, Oliveira do Hospital. Foi alvo de uma intervenção arqueológica no final de 2007 e o início de 2008, promovida pela Câmara Municipal de Oliveira do Hospital.

Vulgarmente apelidados de antas, os dólmenes são monumentos com expressão considerável em território português, existindo milhares de monumentos do género espalhados de Norte a Sul do país. As Antas predominam nas regiões da Beira Alta, Alentejo e Norte de Portugal e o concelho de Oliveira do Hospital é um dos que apresenta o maior número de vestígios dolménicos, contando com 4 destes monumentos.

Serviram inicialmente como local de enterramento colectivo, na fase final do neolítico, há perto de cinco mil anos. Contudo, os trabalhos realizados (escavações) no Dólmen da Arcainha, trouxeram à superfície cerâmicas e vasos com forma própria e decoração típica, que permitiram aos arqueólogos adiantar que este monumento, em particular, teve uma segunda fase de ocupação, que situa entre o final da Idade do Cobre, início da Idade do Bronze.

Em termos de exploração arqueológica, o Dólmen da Arcainha não apresenta as condições ideais, pois trata-se de um monumento extremamente violado e revolvido tendo sido alvo de uma destruição contínua em várias fases. Ter-se-ão tratado de escavações sem objectivos científicos, mas antes escavações à procura do objecto, do vaso ou da ponta de seta.

Para chegar à cache deverão entrar pela estrada de terra que se inicia em N 40º 26,644; W 007º 51.074 e seguir sempre a estrada até às coordenadas da cache, que se encontra na imediações da anta.

[EN] The Anta of Arcainha, or more correctly, the Dolmen of Arcainha, is located in Seixo da Beira, Oliveira do Hospital. It as been the stage of an archaeological intervention in late 2007 and early 2008, promoted by the City Council of Oliveira do Hospital.

Generally called as Antas in Portugal, the dolmens are monuments with considerable expression in Portuguese territory. There are thousands of this monuments spread from north to south. The Antas predominate in the regions of Beira Alta, Alentejo and northern Portugal, and the county of Oliveira do Hospital is one that presents the greatest number of dolmen traces, with 4 of these monuments.

The dolmens served as a place of collective burial in the Neolithic’s final stage, at about five thousand years ago. However, the excavations that took place in the Dolmen of Arcainha, brought to the surface ceramic and pots with typical shape and decoration, which enabled archaeologists to say that this monument, in particular, had a second phase of occupation, which is located between the end of the Copper Age, beginning of the Bronze Age.

As an archaeological exploration, the Dolmen of Arcainha does not have the ideal conditions because it is a violated monument and extremely revolved. It also have been subjected to a continuous destruction in several stages. There might have been excavations without any scientific purposes, but excavations in search of the object, the vessel or the tip of an arrow.

To reach the cache, follow the tarmac road that begins N 40º 26,644; W 007º 51.074, and follow the road to the coordinates of the cache, which is near of the dolmen.
