ncflyers: Oh Well! Sometimes things happen that are beyond one's control. There indeed was a fire here, and apparently the firefighters removed the burned ammo-can. Seems someone set a campfire and it got away from them. It resulted in burning up a 13-foot high redwood stump and the surrounding trees. Sorry. We will perhaps create a new Geocache somewhere here in Fortuna in the near future.

Geocache Description:

Cache is located at the top of a small hill overlooking The Friendly City. There is a paved parking lot provided.

This cache was placed on Saturday, 09-08-2001, at about 2:45 P.M. PDT. The cache is in an olive green colored ammo can. The cache is not in plain sight because this area tends to be hiked regularly. Cache contents an engraved First-Place-Medal for the first finders, a Red Second Place Ribbon for the second finders, a White Third Place Ribbon for the third finders, a bottle of Sting-Eze, a quartz wrist watch, a multifunctional pocket knife, a large penlight with batteries, 2-in-1 salt and pepper shaker, silly putty, 2 Maui keychains, California Poppy Seeds, a tiger eye rock, California Fools Gold, assorted toys, and 3 trash out bags.

Please do not hunt for this cache during hours of darkness. Mountain lions frequent the area and are sighted by locals periodically. Mountain lions are most active after darkness falls.
