How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

This multi-stage cache requires you to solve several puzzles to locate 8 digits. You will need to drive to several locations, do short hikes and do one good hike to collect the digits. Then you will need to bushwhack to the cache.

The cache is located at N 45 AB.CD9 W 075 EF.GH8.

The unknown digits are located through-out the National Capital Region. Unless otherwise specified they are on black dymo tags with the digit repeated three times (example: 777).

Trading Digits is archived and therefore not permitted.

A) Harder Than Pi
Find the "line" TTT tag and the "circle" BBB tag. Determine the number of kms between TTT and BBB to one decimal place. Determine the digital root of that number and increment it by 1; call this number X. Create a virtual waypoint based on TTT. Replace the two least significant north digits with 0s. Replace the west decimals minutes with 3 times the new north decimal minutes. This tag digit is located X kms true east of virtual TTT.

B) Where Was He?
The infamous "photo 2" is one vertex of an equilateral triangle. My photo of a "Big Tree" is another vertex of the same equilateral triangle. This tree is NOT a cache or tag location. There are two possible triangles; consider only the left triangle when looking from "Big Tree" to "photo 2". The third vertex is 730 meters true west of this tag digit.

C) One More Tall One
This tag digit is 779 meters from the door of the pub. The Five Tall Ones visible from the Veterans Memorial Highway will give you the exact bearing.

D) Sign
While searching for one cache, I found another cache and a seemingly useless tag. The posted coordinates are from that tag. Go there and find three numbers on a large sign. Take the digital root of the sum of the three numbers and subtract 6. The result, regardless of its sign, is the D digit.

E) The Missing Digit

F) The Hike
There is a cache that was never found and will likely never be found. Go there and take a look; maybe you will be the first to find it. While you are there count the ceiling beam(s) to get this digit. These are the large beam(s) inside that run from the front to the back; do not count beams that are part of the walls.

G) The Joker Is Wild
If you get out a deck of playing cards and play with different values for the joker eventually you will have the correct coordinates for this tag digit too.

H) The Pathway
There is a recreational pathway that crosses Anderson road not far from Renaud road; it was once a railroad. Go to that pathway and stand on the west side of Anderson. Look westerly down the pathway; see any dogs? Now, turn and look easterly. It's WONDERLAND! Cross the road and follow the pathway to the digit.

PLEASE do not log any spoilers about this or any related cache.
