At the southern edge of the Castle Green Hotel you will find an old walled lane leading up the hillside. Years of falling rhododendron leaves make the going underfoot a little squidgy in places. High walls are covered in moss, a result of the cool, shaded micro-climate in the lane.
After a short climb up the lane you reach the top and a squeeze stile onto a wide track. Follow this towards the bridge and the fields beyond. Ruins of old buildings are to the right, part of the old estate, and the bridge over the railway has an odd feature. Can you spot it?
Beyond the railway the footpath heads into an area of open land, then up towards the posh house of Singleton Park before reaching the minor road of Paddy Lane. The cache is near the small stream running down the hillside - at one time it had a mill on just lower down, although it must only have worked in wet weather as the stream is quite small. Up to the north in the trees is a large embankment carrying the Thirlmere aqueduct across the stream's valley.
Note: The lane would be quite tricky with a buggy. There are no tricky stiles to reach the cache. This cache can be combined with Summit of Kendal - GC1B9VD by continuing up the footpath to Paddy Lane.
