North Holmwood
The architect responsible for the design of St John the Evangelist was Major Rohde Hawkins. At the time he lived at Redlands, South Holmwood, and between 1873 and 1877 was Parish Churchwarden at St Mary Magdalene. He died in 1884 and is buried in South Holmwood churchyard. Building went ahead during the latter half of 1874, consecration was performed by the Bishop of Winchester on Easter Day, March 30th 1875. The exterior may be briefly described. St. John's is built of flint on the Early English Style, with a tower topped by a spire, at its North-West corner. The spire is 75ft. high from the porch step to the top of the weather cock. According to N. G. J. Stiff in his "The Church in Dorking and district" which appeared in 1912, the tower contained "a clock and two bells". The clock, which came from St. Martin's Church remains, but there is now only one bell in the tower.

This little idea I had about hiding a few micros near churches seems to have taken off so this cache at North Holmwood will be my final contribution although adding one would be useful.
It’s been just over five months since I place the first one and I have very much enjoyed setting this series. Some have been extremely basic hides like Newdigate. Others such as Worth were found before it was even published! (That will be Cache u Nutter & Andy33) Leigh even beat the FTF Specialist of Tjapukai and GaryHoney although the cache was there all along. Tjapukais second attempt at FTF that night at Merstham was also scuppered by Cache U Nutter who gets another mention as the only person to have found 2 before publication.
You may have noticed a fair amount of magnets which is my preferred type of micro although I could have got away with it a Walton on the Hill as a suitable hide was ready made unlike Worth which required a minor modification to make the magnet stick. (These alloy bridges are not cache friendly)
I then put a few to the east of me near Oxted to spread the series in that direction and once again one was found before publication this time by whiskeywhiskeymac a full three months early. If anybody finds this one beforehand I will have to change the locks on my house as it’s not going out early.
