Geocache Description:

An ammo can along I 95 northbound

Terrain rating high due to proximity to I-95. Once your are safely off the road, the terrain is a 1.5. I drive past here fairly often and this place has been wispering to me; cache, cache cache. Some times you just have to give in to those voices.

Once appon a time this was a rest stop but no longer. Probably got overwhelmed by the traffic and was replaced by a much bigger one. You can't drive in any more but the access roads are still there. Park at the exit and look for the small saw palmetto palm. While this is a pretty good place to park, it's near I 95 so it's not a good place for kids or unleashed pets. Muggles, however should not be a problem.

In August 2009 sugar bear found this cache and gave some great background on the location. It was too good not to share so here it is:

I worked the stretch of 95 and made a lot of drug busts in these two rest areas. 95 was always the main pipe for coke from Miami to New York.. Back then all you had to look for was a car with rental tags, and a Black or Hispanic driver. We scored some big killo takedowns in that NB rest area. The SB side across the way was good for cash going south. Of course most people travel with 50 or 60 grand hidden in a spare tire in the trunk. I guess now days it would be considered "profiling", but hell, back then if it looked like a duck, and quacked like a duck, it usually was a duck. Or in this case a (drug) mule .
By the way, it was closed about 6 months after that high profile murder of the British tourists up in the panhandle, the state mandated an armed 24 hr. security at all rest stops, and the cost for this rest area did not warrant it staying open since there was one near St Augustine to the north, and one near Titusville to the south.

Cache has standard stuff and a FTF buck.
