Geocache Description:

Leila's Hair Museum is the only hair museum in the world.

It has been featured in many magazines, newspapers, and local TV news stories, and is a featured attraction on Roadside America.com.

Hair from the rich and famous, and wonderful pieces of hair art are featured in the museum. Making hair wreaths was popular during victorian times, and Leila has collected 2500 pieces that are on display. Often, the history of families were recorded on the framed hair wreaths, using hair from each family member.

Some of the pieces are so intricate - it is amazing to believe that they are made from hair! Leila has researched each piece, and some of the history (as early as 1725) surrounding the pieces is fascinating.

This collection has been a 60 year labor of love for Leila Cohoon, owner of the museum. She is currently in the process of writing a book on this 'lost' art.

Permission was given to place a geocache on the outside of the museum, but if you would like to see this amazing and impressive collection, the museum hours are 9am-4pm Tuesday thru Saturday (except holidays).
