Geocache Description:

After 10 years, the EYES are getting hard to see. January 7, 2014. Replaced the missing container. This cache is not associated with the letterbox nearby. There is NO Bonus Box. Traditional cache in a wonderful park. You will be able to log three caches in this great park. (The others are Longboat Keychain Cache at N 27° 24.795 W 082° 39.336 and Pick a Knick-Knack N 27° 24.933 W 082° 39.350) Parking is near N27 24.858 W082 39.470

The 32 acre site is located on Sarasota Bay two miles from the north end of Longboat Key. The site had previously been developed with cabins, these had been demolished and invasive exotic vegetation had taken over the site by the time the Town acquired it in the late eighties. The Joan M. Durante Park is the result of a private/public partnership to enhance and restore one of the few remaining vacant island properties on Longboat Key to a viable wetland and coastal hammock forest. Plenty to see so grab a map and have fun. For more information about the park see www.longboatkey.org/Parks/durante.htm
