How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.

First, solve the following equations (click here for directions):

A) 90 = D. in a R.A.
B) 101 = D.
C) 13 = S. on the A.F.
D) 18 = H. on a G.C.
E) 76 = T.L. the B.P.
F) 52 = C. in a D.
G) 100 = D.C. to B.W.
H) 4 = Q. in a G.
I) 2 = W.D.M. a R.
J) 1 = G.T.D.A.

Next, construct a “keyword” using the second letter of the first word of each of your solutions above. For example if the first word of your solution to equation A above is “Diapers,” then the second letter is “i”. (By the way, “Diapers” is NOT part of the correct solution to the equation.) When you have completed this process for all 10 equations you will have a 10-character keyword, such as “ivareptosd” (no, this is NOT the keyword). The keyword isn’t really a word—it’s just 10 alpha characters strung together.

Now, this is where you find out if you’ve correctly solved all 10 trivial equations. Where you see the words "You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude" below, click the word "certitude" to link to the validation site. (Clicking the Certitude logo will display a table showing who has solved the puzzle since the Certitude checker was implemented.) Type the keyword in the “Your solution” block. IMPORTANT—all characters of the keyword must be lower case! Then click “Certify my solution” to see if the solution is correct. If it is, the cache coordinates will be displayed. Remember, the keyword must be typed all in lower case.

You can validate your puzzle solution with certitude.

The trailhead coordinates can be calculated as follows:
1) Take the N part of the cache coordinates and subtract .131 from the decimal portion.
2) Take the W part of the cache coordinates and add .489 to the decimal portion.

There are other trails leading to the cache, but this is pretty direct.

Enjoy the puzzle and the cache!
