Geocache Description:

Small Cache at Prospect Cemetary Prairie. Located in protected prairiegrass area that is also a late 1800's cemetary. Mattie J. protects this cache.

This is a Cemetery that has been closed for use but open to visitors. It is a protected area due to the original prairie grasses and plants in the area. Under no circumstances should you harm the grasses or plants or remove them from the area. Also, please do not disturb the grave markers. Despite the bad shape of the stones, they still belong to the souls that lie beneath them. Disturb the stones and I believe you will disturb the owners!! Other than this it is a wonderful place to visit to see how Illinois looked to the first settlers. The place is covered with brambles, thorn bushes, small trees and depressions. Be careful! Many who visit here looking for the cache think the cemetery is in poor condition, but it is preserved prairie! It gets burned everyone once in a while to promote new growth, but mowing and lawn-care is not an option. Enjoy the beauty of the cemetery and this small example of pre-settler Illinois Prairie!
