Sixth in a series of little known Civil War sites around Virginia. At appproximately 9PM, May 2, 1863, Jackson was mistakenly wounded by his own soldiers (probably 18th NC). Dr. Hunter McGuire amputated Jackson's left arm at approximately 2AM, May 3. Thirty minutes after the operation Jackson was given a cup of coffee. By 3:30AM, Jackson's Assistant Adjutant General is allowed to interview Jackson to seek advice for General JEB Stuart, by then in command of Jackson's 2nd Corps.
Later that morning, the 2nd Corps Chaplain, Reverend Beverley Tucker Lacy, visits the General. Seeing the amputated arm unceremoniously discarded, Lacy retrieves the arm and buries it in a family cemetery at his brother J. Horace Lacy's home nearby.
