Geocache Description:

Parish Church - Streat

This 11th century church stands on a greensand ridge just south of the nearby Roman road.
It replaced two Saxon churches soon after the compilation of the Doomsday Book.

The large iron slab in the floor of the nave below the Chancel step was made in Kent and is the largest in England, weighing about one ton.
It is a memorial to the Gott family.

The exact date of the tower is unknown, but it had one bell dated 1520.
The original bell was replaced in 1990 by three bells:-

Tenor Bb weighing 6 cwt
Tenor C weighing 5 cwt
Tenor D weighing 4 cwt

The church is open each day and inside there is an information sheet giving more details about the church history

You need to go to the above co-ordinates and look for

WREN Herbert Cowley and note two dates

19AB 19CD.

The cache can then be found a short distance away, situated where there are extensive views of the South Downs, at

N50 55.A(C+B)A W000 04.(C-A)(D-B)D

The cache has a log book only but no pen, so please bring one with you

If any body would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
