Geocache Description:

It’s your choice: you can ruin your rent-a-car – this is the fastest way but perhaps expensive, you can take a mountain bike – best mixture of speed and ambience and the road is dedicated also as a mountain bike route. you can hike – slowly, but the best to get impressions of nature and you can take some special hiking tracks beside the road.

The ER 108 (estrada regional) leads you to Portela. You start behind the restaurant where the Madeirense sell their flowers and plants. After a few meters the normal road turns right, but you take the dirt road lefthand. At N 32º 45.311 W 016º47.992 (Spoiler1) is a nice viewpoint for a break. At spoiler 2 (N 32º 44.998 W 016º 47.678) turn left. Pass the house with the nice terrace (it’s fine for another break). Now you will reach the cache soon, look for Spoiler 3 and 4.
You can continue this road until the end (N 32º 45.170 W 016º 46.936). Short before the end you have a breathtaking view to the north coast. It is worth to go there! You can either go back to Portela or at road end you enter a narrow track which leads you down to “Boca do Risco”. In-between you can pick up the cache “Caixa do Risco”. In this case, you have to be experienced in mountain hiking and you should wear mountain boots. Keep also in mind that you are at the north coast which can be cold, windy, foggy and rainy. An anorak is a “must”, specially during the winter months. Take something to eat and drink with you!
The first 10 finders will be reward with a photo CD of Madeira.
