Geocache Description:

A micro cache at Taunton station

About Sidetracked We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren’t many Motorways in Wales!). But what about public transport users? Sidetracked Caches are intended to provide quick Cache-and-dashes at Train Stations. It is hoped this idea will spread across the country in the same way as the MMs….but if hiding one PLEASE BE SENSIBLE and remember that in this day and age, public transport is under greater scrutiny than ever before, so, although these caches should be quick and easy grabs, PLEASE don’t place a Cache where it could cause alarm!!! Originally opened on 1 July 1842 as part of the Bristol and Exeter Railway, Taunton was the terminus of the line until a new temporary terminus was opened on 1 May 1843 further west at Beambridge. Isambard Kingdom Brunel's original railway station comprised a pair of platforms each with their own buildings and train sheds, both placed on the south side of the line with a hotel between them and the Grand Western Canal. Having both platforms on the town side of the line was meant to help passengers but was found to be problematic, as the railway became busier due to each train having to cross the line for trains in the opposite direction. An engine shed was provided at the west end of the station. For further information see the Wikipedia entry The micro cache (35mm film tub)is at the front of the station (east bound). I have had to move this a little further away from the front of the station as there is so much work going on around both sides of the station. The cache is now located up the steps opposite the front of the station and in the Kilkenny car park. At least for you motoring c & d types there is plenty of parking. Watch out for muggles in all directions. Subtlety will be required at busy times. Good luck and enjoy another of the popular Sidetracked series.
