Leesburg, VA 20175

The staging area for the CITO is at the posted coordinates. MEET AT THE EVENT COORDINATES FIRST. We will be performing the CITO at the Beaver Dam Reservoir.

More instructions will be given when you sign-in.

There is parking available at both the staging area and the CITO site. It would be best if groups could car pool to the CITO site, as parking is extremely limited at the reservoir.

The staging/picnic area has a large (handicapped accessible) porta-potty, a changing area in the barn, and there will be a "horse shower" available for cleaning up. While there is a private off-leash park on the premises, geo-dogs will need to remain leashed at all times.

BEAVER DAM RESERVOIR

The reservoir is owned by the City of Fairfax. It is an important drinking water resource for both Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. It contains approximately 200 million gallons of water and serves approximately 45,000 people living in the City of Fairfax and Loudoun County.

Due to the drought, the low water levels will make it easier to access the trash AND CACHES that are usually harder to reach. The area will be muddy.

The reservoir has MULTIPLE caches for your caching fun.

What to Bring (CITO)

  • Sturdy shoes that can get muddy (maybe bring an extra pair)
  • Extra clothes in case you get muddy
  • Heavy-Duty Work Gloves
  • Trash grabbers/Litter Sticks: Something with pointy tips is very handy to get trash out of icky places.
  • Wheelbarrows, wagons, or haulers will be welcome!
  • First Aid: consider bug bites, allergic reactions, sunburns, cuts, etc.
  • Drinking water is essential.
  • Snacks (if you can’t wait until the Spring Fling Picnic afterwards)
  • Camera, if possible. Take lots of pictures!
  • Boxes of Wet Wipes to help with clean up after the event
  • Walkie-Talkie Radios

What to Bring (Picnic)

There is a sign up sheet located here. Please use this sign up sheet to let us know what you are bringing to the picnic. If you put it in the "will attend" log on this page it may get missed. Please note that because this is not a public park there will not be any picnic tables or grills supplied so if we could have a few people sign up to bring some sort of folding table or a portable grill it would be appreciated. Also bring a blanket or some chairs to sit on.

2008 Commemorative CITO Cache

NoVAGO member mgsgagag has created a Commemorative CITO cache.

If you have some SWAG to donate for the cache, please bring it along! TravelBugs and GeoCoins will be welcomed. CITO themed items would be fun.

Thanks to The Megawheaties for hiding the commemorative cache.

Thanks and Acknowledgements

A big thank you for the donations of Heavy Duty trash bags and gloves from the Loudoun County Sanitation Authority and Keep Loudoun Beautiful!

The Loudoun County Sanitation Authority will be picking up our bags of trash after our event.

Thanks to mgsgagag for his creativeness in the development of the 2008 CITO stencil for use on the 2008 Commemorative CITO Cache and CITO signs!
