Buckden is a nice little village with
the remains of Buckden Palace (now Buckden Towers), once the seat
of the Bishop of Lincoln. Katherine of Aragon stayed there
for a while after Henry VIII had their marriage annulled. For more
of Buckden's history go here.
Like every village, town and city in the UK Godmanchester has
sent its sons and daughters to serve at sea, on land and in the
air. Not all of them have come back. Like almost every settlement
in the UK it has a nicely maintained war memorial at which the
fallen are remembered every year. This cache takes you there.
Please replace carefully in exactly the same position so the
container is out of view as the site is in full view of passers by,
traffic on the road and the nosy neighbours twitching their
curtains. The cache is very small and contains only a tiny log so
you need to take your own pen or pencil (might come in handy).
Please note that the cache is NOT on, or immediately adjacent to,
the memorial or under the wreaths and definitely not in the
church grounds so don't waste your time searching there.
Good luck, and please spare a thought for those whose names are
inscribed here.
“We will remember them.”
