Geocache Description:

Badshot Lea is a small village on the edge of Farnham, Surrey on the border with Hampshire.
Known in recent history for its hop production, the area has been inhabited since ancient times with evidence of Neolithic settlements found by the Surrey Archaeological society and the Long Barrow Burial mound which was discovered by the headmaster of the village school, William "Billy" Rankine in 1967.

The village lies "Between Four Bridges" which along with the hops that once grew here are depicted in the badge of the local village Infants School and the village sports teams.

This cache series will lead you to the four "corners" of the village and some of its history on the way.
You might have trouble finding the original bridge as it doesn't exist any more and neither does the branch line that it once crossed.
The line used to run from Farnham Junction (at the end of Hurlands) through Tongham where it joined the North Downs line towards Guildford.
The branch line ceased Passenger services in 1937. Apart from Bridge Farm on one side and a house called Bridge View on Old Bridge Road on the other side nothing remains of the original crossing.

The cache is situated adjacent to the old bridge near the steps that lead up towards the replacement crossing which is the Runfold slip road.

Best approached along the old road which starts just past the Kiln Village Hall, especially if you are doing the series by bike as you'll be able to ride right up to the cache location ;-).
