Geocache Description:

This is a two stage multi. The coordinates at the top of the page will take you to see a quilt pattern mounted on the side of a barn in a country setting.

Whether it's due to nostalgia, pride of place or the desire to bring tourism dollars into the state, barn owners across Kentucky are blanketing their buildings with quilt blocks as part of the burgeoning Kentucky Quilt Trails.
The beautification movement began about three years ago in Carter County with the installation of “Grandma’s Flower Garden” on the barn of Grace and Dean Ramey. Originally part of the Clothesline of Quilts, a tri-state effort to decorate Ohio, Kentucky and Tennessee byways with traditional quilt designs, the Kentucky portion of the Clothesline is now officially called the Kentucky Quilt Trails.
The quilts come in two sizes, 4-by-4 or 8-by-8 wooden squares painted with bright colors that can be affixed to a barn or fence. Some are constructed so they can be freestanding in a field.
This barn in Hardin County displays the American Beauty pattern — a red diamond in the center of a white square, the sides of which radiate red triangles.

The barn owners picked out the pattern for their barn while flipping through the county extension service’s many books on the subject. They said they wanted something simple, not busy, not a lot of color. Plus, the red and white pattern matched the barn’s color scheme. The corrugated metal building sits next to a pond amid hilly pastures on Crume Road near Ky. 1600.
The painting is the first of its kind on private property in Hardin County. The other local one hangs on the side of a building at Freeman Lake Park in Elizabethtown. I love quilts and hope to visit many more of these "quilts on barns" throughout the state.

The coordinates at the top of the page will take you to see the quilt on the barn.
The second stage is N 37 47.ABC W 085 59.ADE
A= the number of red triangles in the quilt.
B= the first number in the address of this property plus 1. (the address is clearly marked on the mailbox across the road from the driveway to the house next to the barn.)
C= The first number in the address of this property plus the last number in the address of the property.
D= The number of large white triangles minus the number of small white triangles.
E= the number of red squares in the quilt pattern.

The second stage is a micro with just a log, please bring your own writing instrument. There is room to safely pull your vehicle off the road just north west of the second stage location.
Please enjoy your drive in the country and the view of the quilt on the barn and two old barns and water at the second stage.
