Geocache Description:

St. Dunstan's, Cheam

Another addition to sadexploration's church micro list. Set in the ancient village of Cheyham (Cheam), the parish church of St. Dunstan's sits on a high spot in the land, beside the even older Lumley Chapel. A church has been on this site since Saxon times, but the present building dates from 1864. The Lumley Chapel was part of the chancel of the original church, probably dating from 1018. John Lord Lumley converted it to a chapel in the 1590s. Lumley married Jane who was the daughter and co-heiress of the Earl of Arundel. Queen Mary sold Henry VIII’s palace of Nonsuch to the Earl of Arundel in 1556 and Lumley inherited it in 1580. Lumley was a leading Elizabethan connoisseur who developed a major garden at Nonsuch. The cache is not at the co-ordinates above, they are for a car park, but parking can sometimes be found in surrounding streets. The cache can be found by visiting a memorial stone at the rear of the Lumley Chapel, dedicated to John and Ivy Cuthbert. Take away 2 from the day that Ivy died and 1341 from the year of her death, for your northings. Take away 5 from the day John died and 1002 from his year of death, for your westings. N51 and W000 may be assumed. Please replace container in the orientation found.

The cache has a log book but no pen so please bring one with you

If any body would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
