About SideTracked

We have Motorway Mayhem. We have A-Road Anarchy (cos there aren’t many Motorways in Wales!). But what about public transport users? SideTracked Caches are intended to provide quick Cache-and-dashes at Train Stations.

BIRCHWOOD STATION

Birchwood station was built in July 1981, which makes it one of the newer stations in the northwest. It lies on the southern route between Manchester and Liverpool which was built by the Cheshire Lines Committee in 1873.

The station is well used by commuters to Manchester and Liverpool, and it is also well placed for people visiting nearby Warrington who don't wish to brave the traffic! There are roughly three trains per hour in each direction. The station has a modern feel to it and, lying as it does on the edge of the Birchwood New Town, once you have got onto the platforms it can seem quite quiet and rural.

Birchwood was originally a large expanse of marshy waste south of the hamlet of Risley which was gradually drained and turned into farmland in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. It became the site of a huge ammunition factory and storage site during the second world war and in the 1960s the land was sold to the local development agency for the construction of a New Town.

The New Town was built in three distinct residential estates; Gorse Covert, Oakwood and Locking Stumps. Shared facilities lie in the centre and there is also a large retail park in the southwestern corner. This just happens to be right next to the station, so if you have a wait for your train out of Birchwood you can always take the long walk across the car park for some retail therapy.

You are looking for a 35mm film canister. Please take care not to be muggled as it is a busy area and please replace as you found it.

Happy hunting!

Well done to SirPhilpamAndRob on FTF.
