Geocache Description:

This is a virtual cache. This house was designed by Dr. Charles M. Wright in 1889. It is listed as a historic location by the State of IL. Enjoy.

This mansion is located in Altamont IL. The Victorian home was built with 400,000 bricks, has 18 rooms and three marble fireplaces.

Three generations of the Wrights lived in this house. Dr. Charles M. Wright I 1834-1898 Dr. Charles M. Wright II 1879-1970 Mr. Charles M. Wright III 1912-2001

The house directly east of the mansion and accross the street, actually stood at the site of the mansion. It was moved to make way for the Mansion. The Wrights lived in it during the construction. After that the house was occupied by a relative. You will hear more about that on the tour.

JoAnna, Taylor and I were in town one Sunday in August and got to actually take the tour. I had been in the house before but I was a wee one so I only remember shadows of my visit. The full tour is definatly worth the while. The tour is run by some friendly locals who are taking care of the place for the Wright House Advisory Board.

The tours take place on Sundays from 2-4pm. Please stop by and make sure you tell them that Geocaching.com sent you.

Enjoy this spectacular house.
