Geocache Description:

In the Parque Nacional del Teide you kind find a lot of interesting things. Here we have a very characteristic stone formation shaped like a rose.

La Piedra de la Rosa is the result of a combination of processes which were initiated when the lava river got cold, which formed this singular geological structure. When the lava is solidifying, its mass contracts and cracks. That´s why when the rocks are exposed to the wind and weather, they sometimes tend to crack adopting some characteristik shapes. In some cases, you can find balls or bombs produced by spherical flake off. In other cases, when the rocks are broken into hexagonal prisms, the "organs" are created. If the cracks are of a radial type, "stone petals" are easily loosen, producing the formation of roses.

Parking is possible in front of the stone rose. A few metres uphill is a Mirador, where you can also leave your car and enjoy the scenic view.

Logging requirements :
1. make a simple handmade sketch of the stone rose (NO photo manipulation and one sketch for each GC-account !!!), take a picture of it and post it.
2. take a picture of you together with your GPSr in front of the stone rose and post it.
Note : log entries without the 2 requested images will be deleted. Don´t log your visit without uploading images immediately. Sorry for that!

Another stone rose can be found close to GCD7DA Tenerifique. Typical "organs" can you find on your hike GCV7XT Los Organos.
