Geocache Description:

Cache is a micro and contains a pencil and a stash note. Please use the back of the stash note to log your find. Please do not place anything else in this micro; this is a high risk muggle area.

This is another train and another micro. We never visited Breyten until this afternoon. I was not even aware that it had a train station.

Today we were searching for the exact starting location or the eye of the Vaal River. The exact location has a bridge and a dam and the Vaal River actually starts as a spring. Somehow I think somebody pulled wool over my eyes. After having a lot of trouble with dust roads, drivers from hell, a lot of dead ends and no friendly farmers we decided to call it a day. For the first time we visited this one horse town. To be frank, I think the horse died a long time ago.

This afternoon I suddenly remembered the days when my parents and I travelled from George to Durban with the train. This trip was done every year and it was a highlight for me. The stations were cleaned and no rubbish was present. I remember the polished floors of the train stations. In the morning on the train you could hear them shouting “coffee, coffee”. Later the conductor came around shouting “tickets tickets” and they always rattled the door with their key. Then I remember the thick blue blankets and the white linen, they always smelled good and clean. Always present was the clack clack of the wheels. I remember my old mother with her picnic baskets with a lot of goodies to eat.

I felt sad while driving through the town and after visiting the old station. The old railway houses are run down and are falling to pieces. Even the train is the symbol of decay and soon he will not be there. This place was probably throbbing when the trains were still active.

Please do not park in the main road but use the street about 10 meters from the train that turns off the main road. Be aware of anyone approaching when you do this cache. If you feel unsafe abandon the cache. Please feel free to move the micro to another location if you believe you found a better place.

First to find honours goes to Team Ginger and Brick. Well done!!!
