History of the vidacuct: The Szent István Viaduct of Veszprém (commonly referred to as "Viadukt") is one of Hungary's biggest and most beautiful vidaducts, the symbol of the city . It connects Jeruzsálemhegy and Temetohegy, has two lanes and made of reinforced concrete. It is designed by Róbert Folly and opened to traffic on 22th December 1937. Formal ceremonial opening was held on 18th June 1939. Since it's 1937 opening it was part of the National Main Road 8. Nowdays, it serves only conveys the city's traffic and the traffic en route to Herend. The Viadukt is a slab-founded overhead reinforced-concrete arc-bridge. It consists of three arcs, one big and two identical small ones. It's full lenght is 185 meters, it's highest point is 37 meters above ground. Between the big and the central small arc, there is a 6 meter high dyke sloped towards the end of the bridge. There is a small staircase leading down to the valley here. Since September 2006, the bridge's big arc is colorfully floodlit every evening :)
