atributes of Latvian occupation period.
The Victory Memorial to Soviet Army in Riga was erected in 1985 to
commemorate the Soviet Army's victory over Nazi Germany in World
War II. It consists of a 79 meter tall obelisk and several two
groups of sculptures, symbolizing Mother Russia and Red Army
soldiers.
This is the Soviet "Victory Monument" (Technically correctly
entitled "Ensemble to Soviet Army Soldiers - Liberators of Soviet
Latvia and Riga from the German Fascist Invaders") in Riga, aka the
Corpse's Finger, or the Pardaugava post. Situated in "Victory Park"
on "Victory Boulevard" (hence its common name) opposite the old
town across the River Daugava. Still standing, but given its
historical and aesthetic "value", and the prime real estate it is
on (worth tens of millions), that may not be too much longer.
Note: Please leave the cache EXACTLY at the same place and
position as it was placed!
