Das Mecklenbruch, das zwischen 430und 500 m. ü. NN. liegt, befindet sich im höchsten Teil des Sollings – Hochsolling genannt – etwas südlich der halben Luftlinievon Boffzen nach Dassel. Es breitet sich -nordöstlich und südöstlich von Silberborn aus. Es ist ist ein 63 Hektar großes Hochmoor und Naturschutzgebiet im Mittelgebirge Solling, der innerhalb des Naturpark Solling-Vogler in Niedersachsen (Deutschland) liegt. Das Hochmoor ist das größte Moor im Bergland Niedersachsens außerhalb des Harzes. Während der letzten Eiszeit bildete sich aus der Umlagerung verwitterten Sandsteins, der mit Löss vermengt wurde, wasserundurchlässiger Boden. Vor etwa 4500 Jahren bildeten Torfmoose kleine Hügel, die dann allmählich zusammen wuchsen. Im Zentrum entstand so eine fünf Meter mächtige Torfschicht. Schon ab 1799 wurde der Torf über 40 Jahre hinweg als Brennstoff für eine dort errichtete Glashütte abgebaut. Auch nachden Weltkriegen wurde Torf abgebaut, das Moor wurde entwässert. Ab 1981 wird das Moor renaturiert. Dabei wurden für die Wiedervernässung Gräben aufgestaut und teilweise Fichten und Birken, die viel Wasser brauchen, entfernt. Heute kehren die Torfmoose allmählich zurück. Bis sie das Wasser wieder selbsthalten können, werden jedoch schätzungsweise noch viele Jahrzehnte vergehen.

The highmoor is the largest moorland in the mountain country of Lower Saxony outside of the Harz National Park. During the last ice age water-and-permeable soil formed from the relocation of sandstone weathered, which was blended with Loess. Before approximately 4500 years Peatmoss formed small hills, which grew together then gradually. In the center so a five meters powerful peat layer developed. Already starting from 1799 the peat was diminished over 40 years as fuel for a glasswork established there. Also after the world wars peat was diminished, which became moorland drained. Starting from 1981 the moorland is renaturiert. For the recultivation ditches were accumulated and partial spruces and birken, which need much water, were removed. Today the Peatmoss returns gradually. Until they can hold the water again, however roughly still many decades will offense. You find closer information locally.
