Geocache Description:

Menhir de Ceinturat. The region Limousin lies in Central France.
With 16942 km2 it is the 16th biggest region in France. Limousin
borders on the north at the region Centre, the west at
Poitou-Charentes and Aquitanien, the south at Midi-Pyrénées and the
sast at the Auvergne. The relief is mountainous. It is dominated by
the mountains of the Marche and the foothills from the
Centralmassives. The terraceformed granited uplands fall always
from east to west. The highest upland is the Montagne Limousine
with 1000 metres high. The Plateaux de Millevaches and the
Monédières with 900 metres high. In the whole neighbourhood You can
still find prehistoric remains like menhirs and dolmen. Menhir is
the name which (mainly in the French language area) is given to a
large stone. Such a stone is not always enormously large; a lot of
then are only one meter high. The menhirs have been used by
prehistoric people for making formations of megalieten. These
formations can be lines or rings. The name "menhir" is from Breton
originating: "maen" mean stone and "hir" mean long, erect Why the
menhirs have been placed, is not say with certainty. Menhirs were
also separately placed except in stone rings in the landscape.
Detached menhirs as a sanctuary have been used, where one practised
a religion. Carnac (in the Bretagne) have been very confessed for
its megalieten. There stand range there a couple thousand on
parallel that is concluded by a half circle, also Cromlech called.
The menhir has been confessed commonly by the comics of Asterix and
Obelix. Obelix is this way strong that he frequently carries a
menhir on its back. For logging make a photo from yourself at the
menhir and do this at the log and answer after that the following
question by mail: The total length of the menhir and how far puts
the menhir in the ground Logs without a photo and without the right
answer will be removed. Much fun Stapper. An Earthcache is an
educational form of a virtual cache. The reward for these caches is
learning more about the planet on which we live - its landscapes,
its geology or the minerals and fossils that are found there.
