How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Here's a nautical adventure for you land-locked Coloradans. The cache is on an island in Lake Dillon. Don't despair... it's easy to get to and a great family outing. Note: This is one of the 25 oldest active geocaches in Colorado.

We thought it would be fun to give our fellow geocachers a chance to use their GPS receivers on the water. The cache is easily reached by any kind of boat (motor, canoe, kayak, dinghy, etc.). If you have your own boat, you're all set. If not, they're easily rented at either the Frisco or Dillon marinas. If you don't have a boat and would rather not pay to rent one, try explaining geocaching to one of the many boaters at one of the marinas. Maybe they'll join your hunt and provide transportation! In any case, bring the family, a picnic lunch, a fishing rod and enjoy yourself exploring this beautiful mountain lake.

The cache is in a Rubbermaid container and is covered to avoid accidental detection. Please recover it when you leave. The initial contents are: Colorado keychain, Colorado shotglass, mini tape measure, pocket knife, Riviera keychain, vortex football, plush cow, golf puzzle, and Celine Dion video.

Although this cache can probably be reached over the ice in mid-winter, we stongly recommend against it due to the unpredictable ice conditions on Lake Dillon. If you decide to try it, it's at your own risk.

NOTE: In recent years, low water levels in Lake Dillon have enabled at least 1/2 the cachers who found this cache to walk to it. We have therefore set the terrain raiting at 2*. We realize that this is not totally fair to those who rent boats and want a 5* terrain, but we can't be continuously switching the terrain rating back and forth.
