Prvni pisemna zminka o Modricich, ziskana z vatikanskeho archivu,
udava jako datum vzniku rok 1131. Puvodne zde staval hrad, ktery
patril olomouckym biskupum. To dokladaji i nazvy nekterych ulic v
nestarsi casti mesta, jako Pavlovskeho, Prusinovskeho atd. U hradu
byl pansky dvur. Jine usedlosti, nebo dokonce i casti obce,
biskupove prenechavali jako lena, nebo prodavali. Tak od 13.
stoleti nastava smiseni puvodnich slovanskych obyvatel s
germanskymi, kteri nakonec byli ve XX. stoleti v prevaze.
V soucasne dobe ma mesto 3403 obyvatel, jejichz prumeny vek je
40,1 roku. Krome rady dulezitych mezinarodnich motoristickych
komunikaci, protina katastr Modric i nova cyklisticka stezka
Brno-Viden. V katastru Modric se nachazi Technologicky park, ve
kterem pusobi vyznamne strojirenske firmy, a rozsahly areal druheho
nejvyznamnejsiho ceskeho obchodniho a zabavniho centra Olympia.

The first written mention of the town of Modrice, which was gained
from archieves of Vatican, states that it was founded in 1131.
Originally, there was a castle owned by the bishops of Olomouc. The
names of the streets in the oldest part of the town confirm that –
e.g. Pavlovskeho, Prusinovskeho etc. There also used to be a manor
near the castle. The bishops used to cede other homesteads or even
whole parts of the town as a fief, or sell them. Thus, since the
13th century the original Slavic inhabitants had begun to interfuse
with the Germans who, after all, prevailed in the 20th century.
Nowadays the town has a population of 3403 inhabitants, the
average age being 40,1 years. Apart from important international
highways, a cycleway from Brno to Vienna intersects the area of
Modrice. There also is a Technology park with a number of important
engineering companies, and the second most important Czech shopping
and amusement center of Olympia.

Startovni souradnice Vas zavedou na Modricke namesti.
Stojite mezi barokni sochou sv. Floriana, ktera pochazi z
roku 1738 a je nejstarsi kulturni pamatkou v Modricich, a kapli
sv. Vaclava, coz je mensi stavba s kovanou mrizi a drevenym
vyrezavanym oltarem. Na namesti se rovnez nachazi nove postavena
radnice z r. 2002.
Pokud nahlednete do kaplicky, na prave strane je na stene napis,
ktery obsahuje ctyri letopocty. Seradte tyto letopocty vzestupne za
sebe a jednotlive cislice postupne oznacte pismeny anglicke abecedy
(pocinaje pismenem A).

Vas zavedou ke kostelu sv. Gottharda. Kostel byl
postaveny na prelomu 12. a 13. stoleti a je nejstarsi zdenou
stavbou v Modricich. Tvori zdaleka viditelnou dominantu obce. I
pres pozdejdi caste upravy si zachoval nektere pozdne romanske
prvky.
V kostele se nachazi unikatni historicka kolekce soch s nazvem
Zahrada Getsemanska. Vicefiguralni skupina sestavajici ze
sochy kleciciho Krista, sediciho sv. Petra a Jakuba, lezici figury
sv. Jana a postavy andela na skalnim utvaru nesouciho kriz, byla
nalezena pri stavebni rekonstrukci v roce 1982.

Starting coordinates will lead you to the Modrice square.
Now you are standing between the baroque statue of st.
Florian which comes from 1738 and is the oldest monument in
Modrice, and the chapel of st. Wenceslaus, a smaller
building with a forged grid and a carved wooden altar. At the
square there also is a town hall newly built in 2002.
Inside the chapel there is an inscription on the right hand wall
containing four years. Line up these years upwardly and mark every
digit gradually with a letter of an English alphabet (beginning
with A).

will lead you to the church of st. Gotthard. The church
was built at the turn of 12th and 13th century and it is the oldest
building made of stone in Modrice. It makes a dominant feature of
the town visible from far away. In spite of later frequent
modifications it preserves some late-roman elements.
In the church you can find a unique historic collection of
statues called Getseman Garden. This multistatue group
consisting of kneeling Christ, sitting st. Peter and Jacob, lying
statue of st. John and an angel on a rock carrying a cross was
founded during the reconstruction in 1982.
