Geocache Description:

An easy cache and dash on a quiet country road

New bushes have grown in the last couple of years rendering the pillbox almost invisible from the road. If you are standing next to double metal gates you are within feet of it.
This type of pillbox was designed to be occupied by one, or at the most two, riflemen in early WW2 who would be expected to hold up the advancing Germans until they were overrun. The pillbox itself would have provided limited protection against machine gun fire and none at all against explosive charges. It was one of the cheapest designs employed at the time.
This one was probably originally sited elsewhere as the shape of the land does not lend istelf to any useful defensive position.
It is possible that it was originally part of the defensive network at the crossing point of the river at nearby Waverley Abbey.

NO PENCIL WITH THIS ONE SO TAKE YOUR OWN!
