Geocache Description:

Holy Trinity, Rudgwick

We've used Ann_and_Brian's picture of the church as it's better than the small one we had previously. Thanks!

The current Holy Trinity church was built in around 1250, replacing another church which had previously stood on this site. The tower is the oldest part of the church, with much of the rest of the church built during the 1300s probably with materials re-used from the previous one. There is also a 12th Century font which pre-dates the church although it is much restored from its original construction.

If you (like us) are interested in old churches, as epitomised by this series, then do please take the time for a short visit inside - it's well worth it! A free pamphlet called "Enjoying Holy Trinity - An Informal Guide" (which I have shamelessly plagiarised above) is available at the back of the church and gives more detail as you look around this lovely historical building.

This church also benefits from having a pub (The Kings Arms) at the bottom of the path up to the church, so presumably Sunday worshippers find themselves drawn in for a pie and a pint after morning service.

Car Parking is available on the road side (eg. 3 spaces at 05.885, 26.642 or 1 space at 05.835, 26.670) or I guess you could use the Kings Arms' spacious car park if you were also aiming to imbibe before or after caching.

This micro cache has a log book and pencil, and a couple of hand made micro churches for early finders.
Cache is beside the footpath, not in the churchyard. The footpath can be very muddy.

People are welcome to expand this series, but please could you let Sadexploration (the originator of the series) know
so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication. Thanks!
