Geocache Description:

Viel Spass beim Suchen!

Buon divertimento!

The tower is today a ruin, standing high over the old town on the Tappeinerweg. In the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries it was used for storing gunpowder and as a place of refuge for the population in times of war. At the beginning of the 14th century a “Schloss Ortenstein” was first mentioned as the centre of “Steinach”, the oldest city quarter of Meran. The powder tower was formerly the keep of the “Ortenstein” fortification.
