Geocache Description:

This is the first cache in my Border Crossings series.

The other caches in this series are …

Border Crossings # 2 - Berkshire / Hampshire (now archived)

Border Crossings # 3 - Surrey / Hampshire (now archived)

Border Crossings # 4 - Berkshire / Oxfordshire (now archived)

Border Crossings # 5 - Oxfordshire / Berkshire

This multi-cache starts in Surrey, takes you across the Surrey / Berkshire border and finishes in Berkshire.

Most of this route is by Virginia Water Lake. The distance from the car park to the cache and back, is just over 2 miles.

The co-ordinates above, are not for the cache, but for a car park at Virginia Water, where - at the time of setting the cache - the parking was free for the first 90 minutes, however, from 1st April 2008, a new car park fee structure was put in place. In April 2022, the charge starts at £3 for the first hour, up to a maximum of £12 per day.

When leaving the car park, head towards the lake and follow the signs for The Ruins and Cascade.

The first clue can be found by the Cascade …

N 51 24.442 W 000 35.731

… where there is a notice board which states that the emergency phone number is 07833 ABCDEF.

(It has been reported that unfortunately, this notice board is no longer there. Perhaps it will be replaced at a later date, but in the meantime, the answer to this clue is ABCDEF = 543025).

The second clue was found at The Ruins …

N 51 24.503 W 000 36.004

… where there is a sign that states that the stones were transported to Windsor Great Park between August and October WXYZ.

(I understand that the gate which gives you access to the sign, is currently locked and so in the meantime, please feel free to contact me for the date or it can also be found via Google).

The location of the cache – which is a 1 litre container in a camouflage bag - can be found by substituting the letters in the following code, for the numbers revealed by the answers to the clues.

N 51 24.(A-B+F)(C+C+E)(D) W 000 36.(X)(W+Y)(Z)

If you have more time, you may wish to continue around the lake, back to the car park - a distance of approximately 4.5 miles.
