Maison des Médecins, rue Léon Bernus, 40 1908 - architecte

La maison des médecins est très représentative de la volonté
d'affirmer une certaine " aisance sociale ". De même, la façade
présente une association de divers matériaux et couleurs.
L'architecte a marié des briques de couleurs différentes avec de la
pierre, du bois, du stuc, du métal et des vitraux; et cette
association s'avère très harmonieuse.
On constate avec cet immeuble, qu'une fois encore, l'Art Nouveau a
puisé son inspiration dans le monde végétal : une frise sous la
corniche représente des motifs végétaux stylisés, et les vitraux
représentent des nénuphars. Les ferronneries sont très travaillées,
de manière très dynamique et témoignent du savoir-faire des
artisans locaux. On retrouve sur cette façade une influence
arabisante; par exemple, la forme des baies qui sont ornées d'un
arc dont la courbe dépasse le demi-cercle (forme de fer à cheval)
qu'on appelle " arc outrepassé ".
Des personnages en bas-reliefs représentant divers corps de métier
sont visibles au niveau du deuxième étage.
Le fait de représenter un peintre est significatif de l'esprit Art
Nouveau qui prône un retour à l'artisanat et s'insurge contre la
production en série. Un autre médaillon représente le caducée qui
nous rappelle que cette maison fut, dès le départ, destinée à un
médecin.

n°42 - 44 : Construction 1906. Architecte : Edgard Clercx. Deux
habitations formant un ensemble harmonieux. Il faut noter le
remarquable travail de la pierre. Présence également coutumière
dans l'art nouveau, d'un bow-window
n°43 à 49 : Très jolie porte d'entrée. Vitraux à motifs floraux.
Vitrail abîmé représentant un faisan au-dessus de la porte. On
retrouve dans toutes ces façades, de nombreux éléments Art
Nouveau.

The house of the doctors is very representative of the will to
affirm a certain “social ease”. In the same way, the frontage has
an association of various materials and colors. The architect
married bricks of different colors with stone, wood, stucco, metal
and stained glasses; and this association proves very
harmonious.
One notes with this building, that once again, the Art nouveau drew
its inspiration in the vegetable world: a plank under the cornice
represents stylized vegetable reasons, and the stained glasses
represent water lilies. The ironwork are very worked, in a very
dynamic way and testify to the know-how of the local craftsmen. One
finds on this frontage an Arabist influence; for example, the shape
of the bays which are decorated of an arc whose curve exceeds the
half-circle.
Characters in low-reliefs representing various trade associations
are visible with the level of the second stage.
The fact of representing a painter is significant Art nouveau
spirit which preaches a return to the craft industry and rises
against the series production. Another medallion represents the
caduceus which recalls us that this house was, from the beginning,
intended for a doctor.
In the same street.
n°42 - 44: Construction 1906. Architect: Edgard Clercx. Two
dwellings forming a harmonious unit. It is necessary to note the
remarkable work of the stone. Also usual presence in the art
nouveau, of a bow-window.
n°43 with 49: Very pretty main door. Stained glasses with floral
reasons. Damaged stained glass representing a pheasant above the
door. One finds in all these frontages, of many elements Art
nouveau.
The cache.

Het huis van de artsen is zeer representatief van de wil om een
zeker „sociaal gemak te verzekeren“. Op dezelfde manier presenteert
de voorgevel een vereniging van verschillende materialen en
kleuren. De architect is verschillende bakstenen van kleuren met
steen, hout, het stuc, het metaal en de gebrandschilderd glazen
getrouwd; en deze vereniging blijkt zeer harmonisch.
Men stelt met dit flatgebouw, vast dat eens nog, de Jugendstil zijn
inspiratie in de plantenwereld heeft geput: frise onder de
kroonlijst vertegenwoordigt gestiliseerde plantaardige redenen, en
de gebrandschilderd glazen vertegenwoordigen waterlelies. De
ijzerwaren worden zeer, op zeer dynamische wijze gewerkt en
getuigen van de know-how van de plaatselijke handwerkslieden. Men
vindt op deze voorgevel een invloed arabist terug; bijvoorbeeld,
overschrijdt de vorm van de bessen die van een boog worden gesierd
waarvan de kromme de halve cirkel.
Figuren in bas-reliëven die verschillende vakgroepen
vertegenwoordigen, zijn zichtbaar op het niveau van de tweede
verdieping.
Het feit om een schilder te vertegenwoordigen is belangrijk van de
geest Jugendstil die een terugkeer naar de ambachten ophemelt en
zich verzet tegen de massaproduktie. Een ander medaillon
vertegenwoordigt caducée dat ons eraan herinnert dat dit huis,
vanaf het vertrek, was bestemd voor een arts.
In de zelfde straat.
n°42 - 44: Bouw 1906. De architect: Edgard Clercx. Twee woningen
die een harmonisch geheel vormen. Men moet het opmerkelijke werk
van de steen noteren. Even gewone aanwezigheid in de nieuwe kunst,
"bow window".
n°43 om 49: Zeer mooie voordeur. Gebrandschilderd glazen aan
bloemredenen. Beschadigd gebrandschilderd glas dat een fazant
vertegenwoordigt, boven de deur. Men vindt in al deze voorgevels,
van talrijke elementen Jugendstil terug.
