Geocache Description:

“Uncertainty and mystery are energies of life. Don't let them scare you unduly, for they keep boredom at bay and spark creativity.”

Foresneb the Tird

(As occasionally quoted by R. I. Fitzhenry)

The Tirdinians

The Tirdinians are a people amongst us. Few in numbers and long in life they have chosen to live quietly with us, never setting themselves apart.

These peoples have advanced skills as we would judge them. Great knowledge over the law of angles, measurement in degrees, linguistics, and Exactitudal geography. No favour with numbers though they understand the value of none. Their mathematical skills honed for addition and subtraction. Their alphabet was of even lesser complexity. They excel in the drawing of lines that they bend into angles. This they developed into a language surpassing all our own devices and this is how they prefer to communicate with each other. This language has been used in the design of the mystery series.

This example of their literature contains their later day histories, or in our context, four centuries of social and political chronicles

They are a species with profound linguistic abilities mastering every language, including those of the animal kingdom. Often can they be heard by us – never recognized as to their true source. Lesser skills have they in carvings and art, better skills in colours. Hues and tones adding character and plot to their stories. They record their lore and histories in what we would perceive as childish doodles. They relish in the construct of mysteries challenging each other to new heights of ingenuity and creativity.

The Tirdinians have watched the evolution of Geocaching and its technology with envy and desire; not having the technical aptitudes to invent their own. No longer capable of restraining themselves, in this regard, they have broken their sociological norms and have made first contact with humans, or more accurately said, with man’s best friend.

Foresneb the Tird is the greatest of their kind in the designing and setting of mysteries. Many a late eve would he spend contemplating the next challenge; easily solving the mysteries spun from others of his kind, or more to his liking, for the placement of challenges himself. In this he found a kindred spirit who after much convincing has been allowed to share with you this series of mysteries

The Tird Puzzle Series

This puzzle cache series inspired by The Great Foresneb has been simplified to the extent necessary for the understanding of the average geocacher.

There are thirteen caches in total. The Ultimate Mystery being the most difficult to achieve. Each of the first twelve caches contains a portion of a tablet carved by Foresneb the Tird. It is weak facsimile of how the Tirdinians communicate; simplified for the human experience. Most, if not all, these pieces will need be found, assembled, and used to decipher the following coordinates.

N     °°°        °° °°      ”-“      °°° °    .   ° °      ”+”      °°°°     0

Rubbings

Since there may be more than a single geocacher attempting to match wits with the Foresneb the Tird it will be necessary to leave the tablets pieces in there respective caches and make copies for your own use. The suggested means of doing so is referred to as rubbings.

You may find this link helpful in understanding how to perform a rubbing

The largest of the tablet pieces is 2x4 inches. A small notebook, crayon, or soft leaded pencil will suffice. A firm backing to place the tablet on, then the paper, will be necessary for the rubbing to work well as you will have to hold the piece steady. This could simply be a thick note book. It is important to get a good relief of the symbols, lines, shape and scale of the piece as you will be assembling it all together eventually. A scan of an actual piece is in the gallery so you can get an idea of the end result. A red pencil crayon was used. The symbols have been altered.
