Em Beja, a Praça da República, é o local central da cidade. Daqui qualquer ponto de interesse turístico, estará ao alcance do visitante a meia dúzia de passos. Zona aprazível e relaxante, possui algumas notas que merecem destaque. A Igreja da Misericórdia também apelidada por alguns como a igreja sem paredes. Este é um exemplo único da arquitectura renascentista mundial. Inicialmente projectada para ser um mercado inspirado na famosa Loggia de Florença, depressa foi considerada demasiado nobre para o fim inicialmente proposto e reconvertida ao que é hoje. O pelourinho da existente na Praça da Republica, foi mandado construir por D. Manuel após a concessão do foral da Leitura Nova em 1521. Tal como outras obras régias da época, neste pelourinho estão presentes os emblemas de D. Manuel a esfera armilar e a cruz de Cristo em ferro. O pelourinho ali presente é uma reconstrução do séc. XX segundo o modelo original. Mesmo ao lado do pelourinho existem as Arcadas Manuelinas, uma construção do século XVI. Saliento que outros pontos de interesse poderão ser visitados, como a Janela Manuelina a 30 m da Praça da Republica, o Museu Regional de Beja a 150 m, o Arco e Igreja dos Prazeres a 80 m, Castelo de Beja a 160 m, Igreja do Carmo a 200 m.		In Beja, the Praça da Republica (Republic Square), is the central place of the city. Any tourist interest point can be reached by the visitor in a few steps away. Pleasant and relaxing place has a few notes that deserve attention. The Igreja da Misericórdia (Church of Mercy) also called by some as the church without walls. This is a unique example of the World Renaissance Architecture. Initially designed to be a market based on the famous Loggia of Florence, quickly was considered too noble for the purpose originally proposed and converted it to what is today. The pillory existing in Praça da Republica, was built by our King D. Manuel after the granting of the charter of the New Reading in 1521. Like other works like this of the time, in the pillory are present emblems of D. Manuel the “esfera armilar” (world representation) and the cross of Christ in iron. The pillory there, is a reconstruction of the XX century according to the original model. Next to pillory there are “Arcadas Manuelinas”, a construction of the sixteenth century. Other points of interest can be visited from this place, such as Manuelina Window at 30 m from the Praça da Republica, the Regional Museum of Beja at 150 m, and the Arc and Church of Prazeres at 80 m, Beja Castle at 160 m, Church of the Carmo at 200 m.
