PT: O Farol do Cabo da Roca entrou em funcionamento em
1772, tendo sido o primeiro a ser construído de raíz, em Portugal.
Os anteriores foram construídos em edifícios já existentes.
EN: The Cabo da Roca Lighthouse started functioning in 1772,
the first in Portugal to be built from scratch, as the previous
were built over pre-existing buildings.
PT: Em 1843, na gerência do engenheiro Gaudêncio Fontana,
o farol sofreu importantes alterações, entre as quais se contou com
a montagem de um novo aparelho de rotação, composto de dezasseis
candeeiros de Argand com reflectores parabólicos.
EN: In 1843, under management of Gaudêncio Fontana, the
lighthouse had great improvements, such as a new rotating
machinery, composed of 16 Argand lights with parabolic screens.
PT: Em 1897 entrou em funcionamento o farol eléctrico,
equipado com uma sereia a vapor para produzir um sinal sonoro.
EN: In 1897 had an electric bulb, with a horn working with
water steam.
PT: Em 1917 o farol eléctrico passou a ser alimentado por
um gerador de acetileno, e o aparelho sonoro foi substituído por um
de ar comprimido em 1932 e este por uma sereia eléctrica em 1982 e
finalmente extinto em 2000.
EN: In 1917 the electric lighthouse started to be fed by an
acetylene generator, and the sonorous device was substituted by one
of compressed air in 1932 and this one for an electric horn in 1982
and finally extincted in 2000.
PT: Em 1946 foi montada uma nova lâmpada de 3000W e em
1980 ligado à rede pública eléctrica.
EN: In 1946 a new 3000W light bulb was mounted and in 1980
was connected to the electric public network.
PT: Em 1990 o farol foi automatizado e passou a utilizar
energia fotovoltaica em vez da gerada pelo acetileno.
EN: In 1990 the lighthouse was automatized and started to
use fotovoltaic energy replacing the acetylene generator.
A Cache / The Cache
PT: A cache encontra-se dentro do recinto do farol, mas o
acesso é público. É uma caixa vulgar de plástico de tamanho médio,
dentro de um saco preto, e que contém os objectos habituais.
Pede-se cuidado para serem suficientemente discretos. Uma boa
solução por vezes é esperar um pouco. Cuidado a tirar e a repôr a
caixa, para não cair no buraco.
EN: The cache is inside the lighthouse yard, which has
public access. It is an ordinary medium size plastic box in a black
plastic bag with the usual stuff in it. Some stealth is needed. A
good solution is to wait a little... Watch carefully when you take
out or put back the box to not fall in the hole.
PT: Por o portão de acesso ao recinto fechar à noite,
poderá não conseguir aceder à cache após o pôr-do-sol.
EN: As the gate to access the yard is closed by night, you
may not be able do reach the cache after sunset.
PT: Note por favor que, embora consiga aceder à cache
pelo lado de fora do muro, não a consegue retirar. Tem que ser pelo
lado de dentro.
EN: Please note that you can see and touch the cache from
outside of the wall, but you can't take it out. You must do it from
the inner side of the wall.
