*** The
Annual Christmas Event. ***
It's
coming up to Christmas
So for your caching pleasure
We are proud to introduce
Our Fourth Christmas event
Christmas Crackers in the Park
.
Rymill Park,
In the City
2nd December 2007
from 1:00pm.
.
Embrace the
Christmas spirit and join the Geocaching community for an afternoon
of festive activities.
Come and reflect on the fun you have had Geocaching this year and
regale others with your exploits.
.
Bring along a picnic
basket or cook up a BBQ meal on one of the BBQs we will provide.
There is a kiosk nearby as well as toilet facilities.
.
We will be putting
on some games like the microcache and spoon race. The FTF dash
where a team is tied together and the first team to reach the cache
wins. Other ideas are pin the stubby tail on the Bear_left and a
GPS toss. (If anyone has a Magellan or broken Garmin they would
like to donate let us know.)
If you have an idea for a game why not let us know in your
log.
.
We also will be
having a tug of war. The North versus the South. So work out what
side of the Adelaide GPO you are on and support your
team.
We
look forward to seeing you all there.

Itinerary for the Christmas event
1pm – 2:30pm Catch up and have lunch.
Meet the teams and have lunch. Cook a BBQ or unpack a feast from a
picnic basket. This isn’t a communal meal so you just need to
organise lunch for your own group. We will be providing a couple of
large BBQs but if you don’t want to queue please feel free to bring
your own.
During the meal preparation we will run a couple of children’s
games to keep them occupied. There will be a pass the cache game
similar to pass the parcel and a water balloon toss. Also Josie
from team schatzsuche has kindly offered to do some face
painting.
Oops almost forgot. We will also have a pin the tail and pin the
nose on Bear left. We had better make sure we dont get the 2 cut
outs mixed up.
2:30pm – 4:00pm Games
After lunch we will play a few picnic games with a geocaching
flavour.
Game 1 - Hide the microcache. (egg and spoon race) Individuals will
balance a micocache on a logsheet and cross the race area. First
person to drop the cache into a hide wins.
Game 2 - Take the swag to the cache. (sack race) Individuals will
jump into the cache swap bag which contains a cache swap item and
hop across the race area. First person to deposit their swap into a
cache container and hold it aloft wins.
Game 3 - Team work wins the cache (Three legged race) A 2 team
challenge. Find a buddy from another team and join up. One leg of
each team member is tied together. Teams cross the race area and
grab a cache container. First team to open a cache container and
both team members fire the party poppers it contains wins.
Game 4 – Stack the caches and dash. (Relay race) A group challenge
of 2 teams which each contain 5 players. Both teams form a line.
There is a basket next to each team containing a ball. On the other
side of the race area is a stack of cache containers. The first
team member crosses the race area and knocks over the stack of
containers and then puts them back up again. When they are
restacked they return over the race area and join the end of the
line. Once the person has started across the race area the next
person moves to the front of the queue. If they choose they may
pick up the ball and have one shot at throwing it at their
opponents stack and knocking it over. If the person stacking the
containers has not returned to the end of the line before the
container are knocked over they must return and re-stack them. Once
the ball has been thrown the next person in the queue must retrieve
it and place it in the basket before the person at the front of the
queue can start across the race area. The first team to have their
entire group successfully stack their caches, have their ball in
the basket and have all members back in the line wins.
We will run heats for all the events depending on the number of
people who wish to participate.
There will also be a guess the GZ location and a logic maze created
by Zytheran running throughout the day.
4:00pm – 5:00Pm Closing events
A tug of war challenge with the North and South battling it out.
The battle line has been drawn through Kensington Rd, Wakefield Rd,
Grote St, Sir Donald Bradman and Burbridge road. So join with the
teams in your area and if you’re not pulling you should be shouting
encouragement.
Gather together to take a group photograph and sing a Christmas
song.
Given the success of the caching awards last year Cached has
decided to create a stand alone event early next year so all caches
created this year can be nominated.
Thanks to everyone who came along and made this a wonderful day and
a big thank you to all those who assisted with staging this event.
Thanks so much to forthferalz for her donation of Australian
geocoins that the first place winners of events received
To Team Wibble and Ricoh for the runner up prizes. To Hurtle for
the BBQ and Freddo for the BBQ and tug of war rope.
A big thanks to schatzsuche1 for her face painting efforts. I know
our little pirate parrot was delight with his spiderman look. To Z
for setting up a puzzle cache. To Postie for additional presents
and the White dog gang for all their assistance.
I am sure I could keep thanking people until I had worked my way
through everybody there on the day because the beauty of geocaching
is that people are so willing to help and make it work.
From the logs it looks like everyone had a fun time and we loved
hosting the event. We are certainly looking forward to another
great event with you all next year.
So get out your geocaching event diaries and pencil in December
the 7th 2008.
