Geocache Description:

Located on the road/trail out to Kaena Point.

Kaena Joe was an old “hapa haole” man that loved to fish out at Kaena Point. He lived in Makaha and drove his old car out to the point back in the days when the road was still in good shape.

One day about 25 years ago Kaena Joe took off for another fishing trip to the point. He never came home and that was the last time anyone saw him. Searchers combed the coast line and all they could find was the remains of his burned out car.

Just a few weeks ago I was out at the point checking on my two Geocaches and scouting for a place to put yet one more. I was climbing up above the road when I came upon a pile of bones, some very rotten clothing and a wallet. I opened the walled and my gosh it was Kaena Joe’s wallet.

I solved the mystery of what happened to Joe. Well almost because I have no idea why he would have climbed up here so high above the road instead of just walking back to civilization.

Anyway I tried to find relatives and could find none. So I dug a shallow grave and hauled out a grave stone to mark the final resting place for Kaena Joe.

If you too can find it following my skimpy directions please show Joe the respect he deserves and say a few nice things for Kaena Joe and all the other men who get hassles from their ladies when they go fishing, or geocaching.

This link will take you to a song that expresses my thoughts on this subject. It is song by Brad Paisley a Country Western super star and is called The Fishing Song

For some reason the FIREFOX browser will not play the song.

Kaena Joe's view from his final resting place can be seen at this link.the view Remember to click on the skinny picture to see it larger.

Best to wear long pants as there are some thorny bushed on the trail, (oops what trail). Oh yea there are many loose rocks. Take care.
