Now the 2007 season has drawn to a close I thought I would combine my two main interests by setting a series of caches at cricket grounds in Surrey. Cricket grounds are often very picturesque places.
You might like to try the others in this series Cricket Grounds in Surrey #1 Cricket Grounds in Surrey #2. Each ground has some personal significance for me. For the moment I will not reveal the particular importance of this one.
Once again, this ground staged a match involving a team of players all with the same surname. Let's call this name X, and the team "team X". The game was in honour of Joseph X. In the background image you will find a pictorial clue for the name X. You will need to answer the following questions:
What was the combined age of the players on team X? Answer=A years
What was the difference between the youngest and oldest players on team X? Answer=BC years
What year was the match played in? Answer=1DEF
The game was also in honour another person with surname X. Find that person's first name and add up the numerical values of the letters (A=1, B=2 etc). The answer is GH.
The cache is at: N 51 1(G+C).(A + E*100 + H + 83) W 000 (G*H +1).(D-E)(F-1)(B-3)
Unfortunately, you cannot get into the ground in winter but from the cache site you will be across the road from the club sign. Between April and September you will be able to wander in and hear the sound of leather on willow every weekend. Happy hunting.
