Geocache Description:

The Morris Canal was a canal that incorporated a unique system of locks and inclined planes along its course across northern New Jersey. Completed in the 1820s it was operational for about 100 years.

It stretched from the Delaware River near Phillipsburg to Jersey City, crossing several counties along it's horseshoe shaped route.

It was officially abandoned in 1924 and largely dismantled over the next few years, but isolated portions of the canal remain throughout the state. This park contains one of them.

There was a cache in this park for many years, which is how I discovered it. I was accompanying my daughter to a Dr office next to it and was surprised that there was no longer a cache here. Happened to have one in my car.

Nice place to bring the kids, as there is a scenic duck pond nearby and some rabbits. The cache itself is along the original canal towpath.

Please be sure to close the lid snugly.
