Sjøholmen Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

cervisvenator: Hi

While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for the cache owner and block other cachers from placing a cache in the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time, we can’t do so forever.

Nothing seems to happen with this cache listing, so it is now archived, so that someone else can place a cache in the area, and geocachers can once again enjoy visiting this location. Also, if it hasn’t been done already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

If the owner wants it reopened, send me an e-mail and I’ll be happy to unarchive the cache listing if it still satisfies the requirement/guidelines.

(This reviewer note is in English so non-Norwegian cache owners, geocachers and cache reviewers can understand what it says.)

Thanks for your understanding,
Cervis Venator

Geocache Description:

Sjøholmen, Bærum

Norsk:

English:
Sjøholmen was originally a cottar's farm under Blommenholm farm, or Oksehoved as it was called in the 14th century. The farm belonged to the Nesøy estate in medieval times, and has since had many owners. In 1872, the same year Vestbanen was opened and Sandvika got its own railway station, head solicitor and later mayor of Bærum, Carl Herman Halvorsen, bought Blommenholm. He sold plots of land to be used as residences to city folks, and when he finally sold Blommenholm farm, he kept Sjøholmen for himself, where he built a large villa in Swiss style.

The buildings that comprise Sjøholmen today are the main building, the residence, the stables and a bath house. After Bærum municipality bought Sjøholmen in 1971, the main building now houses the school for music and culture. Sandviksbukta school is located in the former residence and a maritime center is located in the old stable building. You'll find the remains of an old lime kiln, which incidentally has given Bærum its municipality coat of arms, close to the hiding place of the cache.

Recommended parking is listed under “Additional waypoints”.
