Island Beach Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Island Beach State Park...off the trail a little...don't screw up sensitive ecology getting here, go around. Please replace exactly as found, and go heavy on the bug spray!

March 24, 2017: The cache has been replaced with a small key-hider fake rock.

March 16, 2015: The cache has been moved close to the trail, in compliance with new state regulations. Additionally, the container has been upgraded back to size regular and a large fake rock covering has been added.

December 30, 2014: The container has been replaced again, this time with a small lock 'n lock.

April 20, 2013: I have replaced the missing container; it's now a camoed lock 'n lock.

July 9, 2012: It is complete! Today, MuseOfIdiots and TeeDeeKay returned to the Island and hid the new oldest Geocache in Ocean County, NJ on their 51st consecutive day of Geocaching. Game on!

Congratulations to our geofriends the VeltingFamily for being the First To Find the new hide!

On August 14, 2012, the eleventh anniversary of Ocean County's oldest hide, a new nearby cache was published: Island Beach Cache II.

TeeDeeKay and MuseOfIdiots feel very privileged to be given the honor of re-hiding Island Beach Cache, and think that this is a fitting tribute to the CWeeks family and their landmark hide.

My wife and son took a day off to go to the beach. Weather was perfect. I grew up in Southern California so paying to get on the beach rubs me the wrong way. As a result we often come to Island Beach SP instead of a town beach. I've wanted to plant a cache here for a while, so finally we did. The only other cache that I've planted so far (Wherewolf?) is within hearing distance of the Pacific ocean, so it was kind of fun thinking about the two.

This is a (hopefully) waterproof screw-tight white container meant to store pet foods. It is best accessed by path with a short jaunt through the brush. It would appear that the most direct route to the cache is over some land that has a fence between you and it. Don't tread there, you can get around it.

This cache is starting out with:

  • a pen and journal (please write about your experience and check in here)
  • an extra long phone cord
  • a Pacific Coast Tree Finder book
  • a "Flip the Cat" beanie taken from Weldon Spring Cache in St. Charles, Missouri
  • my son's jigsaw puzzle with the Flareon Pokemon character
  • a pair of plastic forceps (or something) from a cache in California
  • a heavy duty orange 3-way power coupler
  • a set of toilet bolts in the blister pack
Try to leave the cache hidden the way you find it.

This cache is in a state park that charges a fee per vehicle for entry. To get your money's worth, stay and enjoy the ocean, the nature trails, and the history. And know that your fee pays for a valuable state common good.

Island Beach State Park Details

The bugs in this area during the warm months are absolutely bonkers, so insect repellent is a must. Don't use some and you will regret it!

Monday-Friday through Labor Day: Park is open 8AM-Dusk and vehicle fee is $6
