Geocache Description:

Drive to within 10 metres of cache, slightly uneven ground to walk to cache. Near car park. Toilets in area

Close to Te Anau Downs boat ramp. Starting point for the famous Milford Track. Cache hidden near old Pelton Wheel installed in 1890's to provide power for Te Anau Downs Station and to run a saw mill. A pipeline down the hill drove the pelton wheel which produced enough power to drive the big breaking down saw and breast bench at the same time. The logs were floated to the site and hauled up a skid way to the mill. A nearby stockmans hut still has the original rimu shingles under the existing iron roof. Cache is a 400ml camo painted klip it container. When placed contained notebook and 2 pencils, pencil sharpener, picture frame, plastic braclet, retractable pen, finger light and a mini pack of cards.
