Tree Amigos on K-42 Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

SparksGuy: And this is why I've stopped geocaching - To many hides stolen, to many detonated as pipe bombs, to many questions by muggles wanting to report us to the Dept. of Homeland Sec.

Geocache Description:

This is an easy to find, 50 caliber ammo can, labeled as a "Geocache game piece". Difficulty is only 1.5 because of stealth and poison ivy.

After twice being stolen, we decided to keep this cache active, but to CHAIN it in place! PLEASE make sure that any excess, loose CHAIN is put back near the trees. We do not want the state DOT mowing crew to have ANY problems because of this Geocache. Also, please place the ammo can North of the tree it is chained to. Thank you!

With apologies to Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, and Martin Short. This has nothing to do with the movie, I just like the name. Unfortunately the name Tree Amigos was taken, so was Tree Amigos 1, and 2 and so on. Why K-42? The number 42 is the answer to the ultimate question about life, the universe, and everything; according to author Douglas Adams. It is also the number of one of the highways nearby.

This area is dominated by two large civil projects. One is the Wichita Valley Center Flood Control Project (the big ditch) completed in 1959. The other is Interstate I-235, the West bypass loop around Wichita, finished in 1965. The cache is between them. In 1975 there was one report of Big Foot, spotted in the ditch nearby.

Be very careful where you park. This area is near the intersection of two highways, so it gets lots of traffic. Do not park on the highways or road shoulders. Be careful. It can also get very muddy here after a rain. Please remember to "Cache In, Trash Out".

Do NOT attempt this cache at rush hour. No one is that stealthy. There is no place to hide. The Cessna plant is just down the road.

WAY back in August or September of 2010, the container was muggled. The thieves left part of the log, some swag and a zip lock, but not the container. I am sure the muggle was a worker for AT&T, or a subcontractor like Diamond Engineering, the dirty rats. Anyway, I waited for the construction to finish while hunting down a new LARGER Ammo box. It all came together and became findable again in early January 2011, 5 months later.

Happy Hunting!
