Geocache Description:

Nonograms which are also called CryptoPics, Griddlers, CrossPixs and Pic-A-Pixs are picture logic puzzles using number clues to reveal a hidden picture. Hanguk is the name for the Korean language and alphabet. Correctly solving Nonograms and translating pictures of Hanguk words for numbers will be required to obtain the final cache coordinates. In other words you’ll have fun Nonogramming for Hanguk before you enjoy the hunt for cache

Puzzling

and Hanguk

The coordinates posted above are not for the final cache so don't go there. However, I suggest parking at the small but adequate parking area near the Northeast corner of the forest. It is marked with a Banner Forest sign. To get the final cache coordinates you will need to solve some easy nonograms. There are three nonogram puzzles labeled Puzzle A, Puzzle B and Puzzle C that need to be solved. For each nonogram solved, the resultant picture will be a word for a number written in Hanguk (Korean) using the Hanguk alphabet. You can translate the Hanguk word to a number using the English/Korean Number Chart. A copy of the three Nonogram Puzzles and the English/Korean Number Chart are below and just above the start of the logs. (In stead of solving three nonograms with one number each you can solve just one nonogram with all three numbers. That puzzle is labeled Three Korean Numbers and the numbers are A, B and C from left to right.)

Once you solve the three puzzles let the resultant three numbers be ABC where A is the number from Puzzle A, B is the number from Puzzle B and C is the number from Puzzle C. (For example if A = 9, B = 1 and C = 6, then ABC = 916.) Next use ABC to find UVW and XYZ as follows:

ABC + 210 = UVW
UVW + 258 = XYZ

Then the Final Cache Coordinates are:
N 47 29.UVW
W 122 33.XYZ

You are looking for a camouflaged 40 oz lock-n-lock that is readily accessible via established trails and the cache is located only a short distance off trail so there is no need to bushwhack your way to the cache site. In other words, please use the established trails to the cache site and be gentle when searching. In addition to a log book the original cache contents included a key chain, geocache sticker, pencil sharpener, homemade necklace, and mag butterfly. There’s also a 5 Dollar Starbucks Card for the FTF and it can be found in the bag containing the log book.

Even though I left a pen in the cache, you should bring your own pen to sign the log book just in case the pen is missing or runs out of ink. Do not put the pen in the baggy with the log book so the pen won’t puncture the bag. Please put back the cache in the same place and re-hide the cache the way you found it.

My reception at the cache site was decent (for Banner Forest that is) with my EPEs ranging from 21 to 22 feet while I averaged the coordinates. However, reception can often be difficult in Banner Forest so be prepared to search a larger GZ.

For a very good Banner Forest trail map visit the Peninsula Wilderness Club’s Web Page at (visit link). It can be located in Last Minute Trips.
