Windom Eagles Class of 2018 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

deereman72: I will soon be hiding another in Abby Park - different location, different container. I guess we have a muggle that likes to keep taking the container, trade items and log at this location.

Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Abby Park and is an easy walk from the roadway. A typical urban cache with no bushwhacking.

The container holds a logbook. There is room in the camo outside of the log container for travel bug and coins. The container had to be changed because of muggles stealing the trade items but the camo remains the same. Hopefully without trade items the little muggles will get bored and leave the cache alone. Its okay if you want to pick up the bugs we've placed in the camo and leave nothing.

This cache is placed as a tribute to the Winfair 2nd grade class of 2008 and their teacher, Mrs. LaMaack. The class has 22 students consisting of 14 boys and 8 girls. This class will graduate in 2018. Mrs. LaMaack and her students will be monitoring the cache through the years and hope that it is still active on their graduation day.

Abby park has been a special area for sledding for many years. In 1989, with addition of a playground unit donated in memory of Abby LaMaack, 18-month-old daughter of Mike and Suzanne LaMaack, the park has become an even more popular spot. Abby lived in a house next to the park, which was then named 20th Street Park. She loved to run, play, and swing on the tire swing in the park. She also loved to watch the children sledding down the hill from her kitchen window in the winter. Abby suddenly became ill one spring afternoon and within 12 hours she passed away from HIB, an aggressive form of bacterial meningitis. Following her death, a family friend suggested to the park board that 20th Street Park be named after Abby, therefore the park was given the name Abby Park. In the winter, it is often referred to as Abby Hill. In recent years, a gazebo and a park bench have been added in memory of Abby’s Grandmother and Great Grandmother. A student that would have graduated from high school with Abby as also added a stone pathway from the gazebo for her Girl Scout Gold Award.

Plan to spend some time enjoying the park.
