Geocache Description:

One of three new caches set up to link 2 of our Grand Union Canal caches to make a 4 mile circular walk of 5 caches.

A small locking tupperware type box suitable for small swaps or Geocoins. The farmer who lives nearby and his wife are aware of the cache so you don't need to worry if they are around during your visit. Plotting the caches on OS Explorer Map 221 will outline the route needed. Taking a short cut from the countryside route to "Middle Lock" will net 4 caches with a walk of 2.5-3 miles. Following is a detailed description of the route. The overall walk is a little over 4 miles for 3 caches, and about 3 miles if you take the short cut in the middle to find 4 of the caches. Whichever route you choose the starting point is the same. Walk back up the lane to the road, turn left to the traffic lights and cross the road. Ignore the public footpath sign as the path is very overgrown. Walk through the overflow car park ahead of you to the metal gate on the far side at N52 17.250 W001 36.947. Go through the gate, turn to the left and walk around the edge of the field and under the railway bridge. The route then goes diagonally across the next two fields to Budbrooke Church collecting "Bottom to Lot Link 1" (GC160XC) on the way. Walk through the church yard to the road and turn right. Carry on along the road to the first junction and turn left onto "Woodway". Where the road takes a left turn go right along the driveway to Budbrooke Farm. This will take you past "Bottom to Lot Link 2"(GC160XZ). When you get to the farmyard the walk continues through a gate to the right. Here's where you have a choice….if you want the short route walking straight ahead will take you past "Middle Lock" (GC118C0) just before you get to the Grand Union Canal where you can then turn right and follow the tow path back to your car. If you are trying to find all 5 caches turn left immediately after the gate and follow the path more or less straight ahead across several fields over the monstrous green footbridge over the railway and back to the canal. Look out for "Bottom to Lot Link 3" (GC162DQ) and "What a Lot of Locks" (GCP09R) along this part of the route. Returning to the canal at the British Waterways Visitor area you have several options: • 100 yards along the tow path to your left find the café and toilets. • Over the canal bridge and a short uphill walk to the left takes you to the "Hatton Arms" pub. • Over the canal bridge and turn right along the tow path past the dragonfly sculpture and follow the flight of locks back to the car park passing "Middle Lock" (GC118C0) on the way. Parking is the same as for "Bottom Lock" @ N52.17.214 W001.36.664 only a mile or so off the A46 between the M40 and Coventry.
