de Valongo.

De origens obscuras, S. Martinho do Campo é citado nas inquirições
de 1258. Ainda hoje, o nome da freguesia é enganador. Talvez para a
distinguirem da homónima de Sto. Tirso e outras (S. Martinho)
omitiram o padroeiro e só se diz Campo.
Freguesia rural, nesta cache poderá constatar a forte componente
agrícola e pecuária desta terra não muito longe dos grandes centros
urbanos.
De gentes laboriosas, aproveitam em pleno as riquezas da terra,
explorando as riquezas do subsolo: a ardósia, as quartzites, o
antimónio, o volfrâmio. Utilizando a força da água do seu rio
Ferreira cultivam a terra produzindo milho, vinho, feijão, batata,
legumes, e fomentam indústrias como a moagem, panificação, têxteis,
transformação de ardósias, móveis, metalomecânica.
Mas a maior riqueza ainda é a simplicidade e simpatia deste povo,
onde abundam as lendas e tradições num sentido de vida religiosa,
característica de uma sã ruralidade.

Rural village, in this cache you will be able to see the strong
agricultural component of this land not far away from the great
urbane centres.
Of laborious people, they use the riches of the land, explorin the
basement: the slate, the quartzites, the antimony, the wolfram. And
use the strength of the Ferreira river; cultivating the land
producing corn, wine, bean, potato, vegetables; and promoting
industries like the grinding, bread-making, textiles,
transformation of slates, furniture, and iron.
But the biggest value is the simplicity and sympathy of these
people, with a sense of tradition and religious life,
characteristic of a healthy countryside.

Foi colocada no lugar da ponte do rio ferreira, devido à sua
componente histórica. Neste mesmo local em 1832, travou-se a
batalha de ponte ferreira entre os exércitos de D. Pedro IV e o seu
irmão D. Miguel.
Desde o dia 17 do mês de Julho desse ano que os dois exércitos se
encontravam em pequenas lutas, quer pelos montes, quer pelas ruas
de Valongo, até que, na manhã do dia 23 tiveram em Ponte Ferreira a
sua grande batalha.
Segundo o relato dessa batalha feito pelos historiadores,
combateram aproximadamente 23.000 Homens, sendo de D. Miguel 15.000
homens e de D. Pedro IV apenas 8.000. Durante mais de 12 horas,
liberais e miguelistas bateram-se em Ponte Ferreira como valentes
soldados que eram, e, após muitas baixas de ambos os lados,
conseguiram os Pedristas repelir o inimigo, quando a derrota
parecia quase evidente.
No local conserva-se ainda hoje, como então, a ponte de granito
pela qual os dois exércitos se debateram pela travessia do rio.
A área envolvente é agora um parque bastante agradável, onde existe
inclusive um moinho recuperado, que serve agora de museu da
panificação. Poderá aproveitar para fazer um pic-nic ou apenas
descansar um bocado enquanto se prepara para cachadas mais
extenuantes.

subida das águas do rio.
[Eng] The cache
It was putted near the bridge over Ferreira river, due to his
historical component.
In this place in 1832, there was a battle between the armies of D.
Peter IV and his brother D. Miguel. In the place you can still find
the bridge for which two armies were debated in that battle.
The involving area is now a quite pleasant park, where exists a
recovered mill (bread museum). You can do a pic-nic or rest and
recover for the most tiring caches. You can visit the church in
your way (WP1).
ATENTION - The cache may not be avaiable during the raising
of river waters.
