As with all caches on Dartmoor please wear appropriate footwear and remember the weather can change very rapidly. The stone rows, circle, cists and cairns are all thought to date from the Neolithic period, which dates them as being about 4000 years old. The Neolithic period is a term used to describe the period when prehistoric man started farming and domesticating animals and ended with the beginning of the Iron Age, (2000 years ago). These ancient sites (a thousand years older than Stonehenge) are some of my favourite places on Dartmoor, and are eerie, mythical and magical places that I hope you enjoy as much as I do. The terminal stone is stands 14ft (4.3m) high. The tallest standing stone on Dartmoor. Near this stone is a large cairn called The Giants Basin. The Giant's Basin is a massive mound of stones, approx 22 metres in diameter, and still 4 metres in height, but the centre has been hollowed out in the past, probably giving it it's name. This is often a popular area so please be discreet. Please put the cache back the way you found it.
